Accident Prone Val

Thank you, Carrie, for reminding me to post!!

Let's see, what's new...

Well, I sprained my ankle this past Thursday night, at Theology Fellowship. I was sitting cross-legged on the couch while we were talking and praying, and I guess my foot fell asleep, though I didn't know it. So I got up and started to walk, causing my left ankle to roll right underneath me (gross, I know), and I sprained it. At first I thought I could just walk it off, which I tried for quite awhile. But by the time I left to go home, my ankle was so swollen that it looked like it had two large goose eggs on it. I went home, grabbed a book, talked to Karin a bit, then drove myself to the ER, where I was actually treated pretty quickly. I got to see my x-rays, which was super cool. Apparently I have a fragment of bone or something else floating around in my ankle; no one is really sure. So now I'm in one of those black fracture boots, hobbling around Seattle. Actually, the next day Sara picked me up and we bussed downtown to meet Meagan for lunch, so I got a good work out on my crutches - we walked/hobbled about five blocks! I was on crutches for a few days, but I don't need them much anymore. The pain is mostly gone, except for the deep purple bruising that surfaced last night. I'm going back to work at Pottery Barn Kids tomorrow, as well as babysitting and stuff this week, which is a relief!

Yeah, so I'm now working at Pottery Barn Kids, which is a branch of Williams and Sonoma, which means that I get a fantastic discount at all Williams and Sonoma stores, Pottery Barn, West Elm, and one other one that I can't remember. I enjoy working there and everyone is really nice. I'm also looking into working at Noah's Bagels, since they offer benefits to part-time employees. I am going to go pick up an application tomorrow afternoon.

This fall....
I'm thikning about subbing and working part time at other places for a year, actually. I've come to the realization that I have been in school since I was four, and it's about time for a bit of a break. I'm excited about a year of flexibility, as well as getting my foot in the door with other school districts and experience teaching other grades. So I'm thinking about heading to MI in October sometime, since I haven't seen a good MI autumn in about five years. I may also fly to Mississippi to do hurricane relief with a group from my church. And I'm going to work, get more involved with my church, and continue to take full advantage of Seattle!

This coming Thursday Sara and I are packing up all her earthly belongings - including her fish, Tully - and making the Seattle-to-San Francisco drive. It's about a 15-hr drive, depending on traffic, so our goal is to leave at 5am and pull in around 8 or 9. Aye. I've driven it before, and it's going to be really fun! The drive down I-5 is actually pretty amazing in some places, especially near the OR-CA border, when Mt. Shasta (aka a volcano) is in view. It will be our last hoorah together for awhile. Once we get down there, I'm going to try to visit Karin in Berkely, as well as another friend. Sara and her dad are taking a U Haul and moving her into her apartment tower in LA, where she will live while attending Law School at USC. Amazing!! My little roomie is all grown up!! Since there's not enough room for me in the U Haul - and because I now have a sprained ankle - I'm just going to hang out in the Bay area with friends and with Sara's mom, then fly back up to Seattle Saturday afternoon. It's a quick trip, but I only have to pay for food, so it sounds like a blast to me!

Ok, I'll try to post more often from now on :)
