Look out, Mary Poppins...
I'm a nanny!
I applied for the live-in nanny position that is for next school year, and I got it! My interview was on Tuesday and it went incredibly well. I am meeting Eva (8 1/2 yrs) Sunday afternoon. Her mom, Nicole, is very nice and it sounds like we will all live well together. We have some of the same personality traits, are easy going, neat, introverts, and quiet. According to Nicole, Eva is very smart, creative, outgoing, sociable, respectful, and has a wicked sense of humor! I look forward to meeting her this weekend. I won't move into their home until the end of August or Labor Day weekend, but I will be spending a good amount of time with them - esp. Eva - this summer, so we can get used to one another and get to know each other.
Their house is incredible. It's a yellow two-story up on Queen Anne, right across from a little park. The house is pretty old fashioned, but has been renovated and kept up. Hardwood floors, fireplace, formal dining room, elaborate kitchen with marble counter tops, a super deep bathtub in one of the bathrooms. And they have a piano! I will be living in the basement bedroom, where I will have my own bathroom. Yay, my own space! My bedroom is a medium to dark green and has a queen size bed, dresser, and closet. The bathroom has a shower, old fashioned porcelain sink, and the tile floor is heated. The laundry room is downstairs and there is also a private entrance in the basement that I can use. The family room is also downstairs, and Nicole said that they hardly ever use it, so I can use it all I want. It has a great tv, dvd/vcr player, stereo system, and a big, comfy couch.
My nanny duties will include getting Eva up some mornings and dropping her off at school; helping her with homework for an hour every afternoon, as well as planning supplemental assignments for her; spending Wed. evening with her and putting her to bed; taking care of her every other weekend in the evenings; and doing the weekly grocery shopping and errands for the family. I also plan on just hanging out with her when I have the chance, playing with her, taking her to the library, the park, and maybe even doing some piano duets with her :) I have a feeling that God has brought this little girl and her mom into my life for a pretty darn good reason...I can't wait to experience it!
